9/6/2023 0 Comments Mtg spike definition![]() ![]() Spike witnesses all sorts of people engaging in strange and unfamiliar behaviors, activities, and philosophies, and makes note of the most successful ones. Spike studies examples of successful people both in MtG and the outside world in an effort to uncover their secrets and apply them to Spike's own efforts. Spike reads about how to obtain success, and puts themselves in situations where they can learn about success. Having the self-awareness and humility to recognize they cannot answer this question on their own, Spike begins to research. "But how does a player become skilled?", Spike asks. Not one to take any unnecessary risks on the path to greatness, Spike knows that in order to achieve greatness, they must achieve great skill. Spike knows that while a lucky player will occasionally beat a skilled one, on average the skilled player will dominate even when at a disadvantage. In learning about Magic, Spike understands this game is in a small way about chance and luck, but is overwhelmingly based on a player's skill. Spike will learn Magic inside and out to gain a full understanding of how they caan accomplish this, in order to obtain the most successful and direct path to greatness. Spike wants to become a truly great Magic player, the best they can conceivably become. Spike's goal is simple: Greatness, at any cost. Though they may lie to themselves and to others, their true purpose is to flounder in perpetual mediocrity and use their hatred or willful ignorance as an explanation or excuse for their actions and failures. I want to make one point exceptionally clear: These people are not Spikes. The toxic player who resorts to misogyny, racism, or any form of hatred when they lose to you, and who feels the need to use the same form of hatred to gloat over you when they win. That jerk at FNM who complains to their friends about losing to your shit deck. ![]() The MTGO opponent who types "ggez" and abruptly leaves after you topdeck five lands in a row. While it's clear this Magic player is mocking the "spiteful Spike" stereotype (and rightfully so, in my opinion), I'm sure we all have experience with at least one real person who fits this mold. ![]() I can be as salty and annoying as I want because I'm a SPIKE and it's a officially recognized psychographic by MaRo so you literally can't get offended at me getting angry when I lose. Kindness doesn't matter because it doesn't help me win. r/magicTCG is not produced, endorsed, supported by, or affiliated with Wizards of the Coast.Īllow me to lead with this quote from u/Esc777 found here, which prompted me to write this article: Magic: The Gathering, including card images, symbols, and text, is © Wizards of the Coast, LLC, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc.
